1. Daily Student Routine: What should my student do on each instructional day?
Daily Student Routine
- In the morning, review my Schoology account, calendar, and inbox for the day’s schedule, assignments, and messages for all six classes in which you are enrolled.
- Attend all my classes through live Zoom or prerecorded lessons via Schoology.
- Each 70 minute blocked period will be used for instruction and contain a beginning, middle and end, depending on teacher design and content areas.
- Attend Teacher-Directed independent learning or office hours if you are directed to do so or if you have questions.
- Attendance will be taken and documented.
- Attend Homeroom on Wednesdays which will serve as your homebase for school: announcements, social and emotional support. Attendance will be taken.
- Complete my synchronous (real time, live) and asynchronous (recorded or accessible after the class period has ended) assignments and submit them to my teacher as required.
- Communicate with my teachers through Schoology messages if needed.
2. Seahawk Support Days: What does Wednesday look like for my student in terms of doing school?
- We are calling Wednesdays Seahawk Support Days. Each Wednesday is intended for students to participate in Homeroom (11AM to 12 Noon)—a period of time that students will interact with teachers to identify needs and to offer students a connection to the school and to other students.
- These are not days “off.” Students can and should schedule times with teachers to get immediate feedback or support, and students may also use this time to do assigned projects or assignments.
3. Supplies: What will my student need the very first day of school?
- Students will need an electronic learning tool (computer, tablet, etc.) and internet access for remote learning. Teachers generally provide students with a list of supplies the first few days of school.
- The district provides each student a Chromebook. If your student needs a Chromebook, please contact us at 253.530.4400.
- If needed, Chromebooks will be available on September 3rd from 10 to 3 at the PHS bus turn around area.
- If you need internet access, and you cannot get it, please contact us as soon as possible.
- Textbooks will be distributed as needed; however, Schoology will serve as the main learning platform.
- Make sure you have access to the student portal. Log in with your student ID# and click on the Schoology button.
4. Student Attendance: What do I do if my student cannot attend school virtually because of an illness or family circumstance?
- As in the past, please communicate with the school and follow the traditional process for excusing students from classes.
- Students who miss classes should be in contact with their teachers via Schoology to arrange content that needs to be “made up.”
- We have an attendance team of school professionals that will monitor and support families for attendance issues.
5. Safety Protocols and Procedures: If you or your student needs to come to school, what are the safety and sanitation measures in place?
- We have already cleaned the school from top to bottom this summer. And we intend to keep PHS very clean and sanitary.
- We have a building-level Facilities Safety and Management Team (faculty and staff) that will meet weekly in the beginning to address issues or concerns about sanitation and safety.
- When entering the building through the main, front doors only, we will follow the state and local health department requirements for entry and access. There will be no exceptions to this.
- Signs that direct safe practices and behaviors will be posted clearly through the school and at the entryways.
- Students and staff will need to wear masks while in the school halls and rooms.
- If a student enters the school or classroom, immediate cleaning of occupied spaces will be completed.
- If there is a student or staff member who becomes ill, we have a process and set of procedures, as well as a designated quarantine room and a health technologist and school nurse who will assist.
6. Addressing Student and Family Instructional Needs: What do I do if I need something or students have questions?
- Students and parents should contact teachers directly via Schoology if they have learning or class-related logistics questions. The envelope Icon at the top of each class page will directly message the teacher in Schoology.
- If you need paper copies or textbooks, please contact your teacher who will work with our building-based team, and we will respond to these needs.
7. Stages, Dials, and Getting Back to Normal: How might I understand the process of getting back to normal as we continue forward?
- The District’s comprehensive back to school plan or guidebook contains a thorough explanation of the various phases that allow for student engagement at a school site. We will follow the guidance from the PSD leadership team and the state and local health officials. The Reopening Peninsula Schools Guidebook is located on the District Web Site. A link is also located in our newsletter.
8. Sports and Extracurriculars: Will the school offer activities for students after school as in the past?
- The simple answer is yes. We want as many students as possible to participate on a team or in an activity.
- Information regarding all sports is located here.
- We are working through the best way to offer clubs for students, and more information will be coming the very first weeks of school.
9. Communication: How will I find out about what is happening or changing at the school? How quickly can I get a response?
- Our web page will be outfitted with a quick email link that will allow for parents or students to get timely responses to questions.
- School Messenger is the means by which we send correspondence to parents and our community. This is linked to our PowerSchool platform, so having up-to-date contact information is important for parents.
- Peninsula High School will send every two weeks our Hawk Talk, an electronic newsletter full of current information in a very accessible, straightforward format.
- If you need something immediately, you can always call the school at 253.530.4400.
