- Native Student Highlight – Savannah Yellow Calf is the great-great-granddaughter of the last Northern Arapaho Chief, Chief Yellow Calf. The original family name, “Yellow Buffalo Calf,” was later shortened to “Yellow Calf” and eventually changed to “Caldwell” when names were drawn from a hat—an act resulting from the U.S. government and settlers’ lack of understanding of Native naming traditions. Chief Yellow Calf was a respected spiritual leader and a strong advocate for the equal rights of Indigenous people.
